California ID Verification Policy (AB-1263 Compliance)

To comply with California law, Black Rifle Depot requires identity verification for certain products shipped to California residents. This verification process is built directly into checkout and is designed to be fast, secure, and as seamless as possible—so your order can move forward without unnecessary delays.

How California ID Verification Works

Step 1: Upload a Valid California ID

After completing checkout, you’ll be prompted to upload a clear photo of your California driver’s license or California state-issued ID.

To avoid delays:

  • Ensure the photo is well-lit
  • Make sure all text is clearly readable
  • Avoid glare, blur, or cropped edges

Step 2: Automatic Identity Verification

Once uploaded, our secure verification system automatically reads your name and address and compares it to the shipping address on your order.

  • This process typically completes in seconds.
  • Most orders do not require manual review

Step 3: Address Confirmation (If Needed)

If the address on your ID matches your shipping address, verification moves forward immediately.

If the addresses do not match (for example, due to a recent move), you can choose one of the following options:

  • Update your shipping address to match your ID
  • Upload a secondary document showing your current California address

Accepted secondary documents include (but are not limited to):

  • Vehicle registration
  • Utility bill
  • State or local tax document
  • Official government correspondence

Important: For California shipments of covered items, Black Rifle Depot can only ship to an address that matches the address shown on your verification documents.

Step 4: Acknowledgment & Order Processing

Before submitting, you’ll be asked to confirm that all information provided is accurate and complete. Once acknowledged and approved, your order proceeds to processing.

What Orders Are Affected?

California ID verification applies to orders shipping to California that include products covered under AB-1263, including certain:

  • Firearm accessories
  • Manufacturing tools
  • Related components as defined by California law

If any item in your cart requires verification, you’ll automatically receive the ID upload prompt after checkout.

California Delivery Requirements

Some California shipments may require ID presentation and a signature at delivery.

Please note:

  • Many U.S. carriers enforce Adult Signature Required services
  • These services often require the signer to be 21 years or older with a government-issued photo ID, even when California law allows possession at 18+

These requirements are set by the carrier, not Black Rifle Depot, and may affect delivery availability for some customers.

If Verification Can’t Be Completed

If verification is unsuccessful, your order will be placed on hold. You’ll have the option to:

  • Re-upload clearer ID images
  • Update your shipping address
  • Submit an accepted secondary document
  • Cancel the order for a full refund

No order will ship until verification is completed.

Your Privacy & Data Security

Black Rifle Depot takes your privacy seriously.

  • ID images are used only for verification purposes
  • We do not use ID data for marketing
  • ID images are not retained after verification unless required for:
    • Legal compliance
    • Dispute resolution
    • Fraud prevention
    • Carrier or insurance claims
  • All data is transmitted using industry-standard encryption
