With high-performance cartridges such as 22 Nosler and 6.5 Creedmoor, the bore pressure remains higher further down the barrel.

Proof ensures the gas system pressure is the same as the AR platforms were originally designed to be. This is achieved by moving the port location, resulting in a noticeably softer recoil impulse, less fouling in the receiver, increased reliability of extraction, and less wear and tear on brass.
